Industrial Paint Application Anti Corrosive Pigment

Characteristics:

Anti-corrosive pigments are additives used in industrial paint applications to provide protection against corrosion. These 

pigments work by forming a protective barrier on the surface of the painted material, preventing the corrosive agents from 

reaching the underlying metal.

There are several types of anti-corrosive pigments commonly used in industrial paint applications, including:

1. Zinc Phosphate: Zinc phosphate pigments are widely used in anti-corrosive coatings due to their excellent corrosion 

resistance properties. They provide a barrier effect and also act as a sacrificial anode, corroding preferentially to protect 

the underlying metal.

2. Zinc Dust: Zinc dust pigments are another popular choice for anti-corrosive coatings. They provide excellent cathodic 

protection by acting as a sacrificial anode, corroding in preference to the metal substrate.

3. Zinc Chromate: Zinc chromate pigments offer good corrosion resistance and are often used in primers for steel structures. 

However, due to environmental concerns, their use has been restricted in many countries.

4. Zinc Phosphosilicate: Zinc phosphosilicate pigments offer superior corrosion resistance compared to zinc phosphate or 

zinc chromate. They form a dense, insoluble protective layer on the metal surface, providing long-term protection against 

corrosion.

5. Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO): MIO pigments consist of naturally occurring iron oxide particles that have a platy structure. 

When used in coatings, they align parallel to the painted surface, creating a barrier against moisture and corrosive agents.

These anti-corrosive pigments can be incorporated into various types of coatings, including epoxy, Polyurethane, and alkyd-based 

paints. The choice of pigment depends on factors such as the substrate material, environmental conditions, and desired level of 

corrosion resistance.

In addition to anti-corrosive pigments, industrial coatings may also contain other additives such as inhibitors, fillers, and binders 

to enhance their performance and durability. Proper surface preparation and application techniques are also crucial to ensure the

effectiveness of the anti-corrosive coating.

Recommended dosage:

5 % - 8 % for solvent systems and 5 % - 10 % for aqueous systems.
